Billikens Fall in George Washington Opener

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis baseball fell to 31-18 and 12-7 in Atlantic 10 Conference games after a 6-4 loss at George Washington. Clay Smith (8-2) was hit with the loss.

In the game, Mike Vigliarolo extended his on-base streak to 37 games with a single in the sixth inning. He has the second-longest on-base streak under Darin Hendrickson. J.D. Dunn ended the 2008 season on a 35 game streak and opened 2009 with a 10 game streak.

George Washington plated three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead to the eighth.

In the top of the eighth, the Billikens mounted a rally with a leadoff single from Parker Sniatynski, followed by an RBI double from Alex King. King later scored on an RBI double from Vigliarolo. However, the Colonials scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame for a 6-2 lead.

Snitynski hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth, and was driven in on an RBI triple from King. Michael Bozarth sent a ball to deep center field, but the GW outfielder corraled the ball with his heels at the wall.

The Billikens continue the series tomorrow with a noon (CT) first pitch. Zach Girrens will start on the mound for SLU.
