ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University head women's basketball coach Lisa Stone has announced the hiring of Ty Margenthaler as an assistant coach. Margenthaler, who spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach at Samford, replaces Glenn Box, who earlier this month accepted an assistant coaching position at Indiana.
Margenthaler was Samford's recruiting coordinator and helped guide the Bulldogs to a 20-11 record last season. He will serve as SLU's recruiting coordinator, work with the Billikens' post players, and handle regular scouting, game preparation and practice duties.
This will be Margenthaler's second stint as an assistant on Stone's staff. He served five seasons (2006-11) with her at Wisconsin, where he was in charge of post player development and was the Badgers' recruiting coordinator.
“I'm very pleased to welcome Ty to Saint Louis University and the Billiken family,” Stone said. “He comes from a basketball family and is a highly respected and proven recruiter. Ty knows how I operate and will be a tremendous asset to our program as we build on the success we enjoyed last season.”

Prior to his stint at Samford, Margenthaler spent four seasons as the head coach at Southeast Missouri State. His teams held 34 opponents to fewer than 60 points and increased their offensive output by more than 10 points per game. The Redhawks also excelled academically, posting the nation's fifth-best grade point average in 2012-13.
Wisconsin's 95-68 record during Margenthaler's tenure in Madison included a school-record 23 victories in 2006-07. The Badgers finished second in the Women's National Invitation Tournament that season in the first of five consecutive postseason appearances (four WNIT, one NCAA). UW tied for third place in the Big Ten Conference in Margenthaler's final two years.
Margenthaler's coaching experience also includes six seasons as an assistant at Bradley; one season as an assistant at his alma mater, SIUE; and two seasons as head coach at Roxana (Ill.) High School, where he led his team to conference and regional titles and garnered Alton Telegraph Coach of the Year honors.
After collecting All-State plaudits as a senior at Macomb (Ill.) High School and playing two years at Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College, Margenthaler spent the final two seasons of his career under the tutelage of his father, Jack, at SIUE. He averaged 16 points and started every game for the Cougars.
Margenthaler holds a bachelor's degree in physical education/kinesiology from SIUE. He and his wife, Julie, are the parents of sons Brice and Nate.
