THE BASICS
•Saint Louis softball lost twice on day one of Chattanooga's Frost Classic Friday, falling 1-0 to UT Martin and 5-3 to Western Michigan.
•The Billikens are 3-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
•After Maddie Baalman retired the first two UT Martin batters in the top of the seventh inning, the Skyhawks put together a double and a single to score the game's only run.
•UTM pitcher Brooke Kennedy allowed only two Saint Louis runners to reach second base. Kennedy retired 12 consecutive Billikens to end the game.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES – GAME 1
•Baalman struck out a career-high eight batters, walked only two and allowed seven hits.
•Mackenzie Peter, Alyssa Tarquinio and Hailey Weavers singled.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
•Saint Louis scored twice in the top of the first inning. The first run scored on an error, and the second crossed on an RBI double by Tarquinio.
•Western Michigan did all its damage in the fourth inning, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring five times.
•The Billikens got one of those runs back in the fifth. Josie Knesel led off with a double and scored on Peter's two-out single.
•SLU brought the potential tying run to the plate following two-out doubles by Kallen Loveless in the sixth and Emma Buckles in the seventh, but the Billikens couldn't capitalize on either threat.
BILLIKEN NOTABLES – GAME 2
•Loveless was 2-for-3.
•Buckles was 2-for-4, including a triple.
•Allie Macfarlane had a single.
•Kaylea Chappelle allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter in 2 2/3 innings of relief work.
