THE BASICS
•Allie Macfarlane homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Saint Louis to an 8-3 victory over Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.
•Saint Joseph's won game two of the doubleheader, 9-0.
•The Billikens are 12-12 overall, while the Hawks are 7-15.
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Louis struck early with two runs in the first inning. Mackenzie Peter delivered an RBI single, and Hailey Weavers drew a bases-loaded walk.
•The Billikens made it 3-0 on Macfarlane's third-inning leadoff home run.
•Saint Joseph's plated three runs in the fourth, but SLU pitcher Maddie Baalman worked out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the score tied.
•Saint Louis exploded for five tallies in the sixth. After the first run scored on a throwing error, Macfarlane blasted her sixth homer of the season, a three-run shot. The Bills added a run on Weavers' RBI single.
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Baalman evened her record at 5-5. She struck out three and allowed just five hits.
•Josie Knesel doubled twice.
•Emma Buckles contributed a single.
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saint Joseph's scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on four in the second and two more in the third.
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Alex Nickel hit her fifth triple of the season.
•Peter, Macfarlane and Mackenzie Lawson recorded a single apiece.
