BILLIKENS SWEEP VCU TO GRAB SERIES WIN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAINT LOUIS - [GAME ONE BOX] [GAME TWO BOX] A day after having its record-setting 15-game win streak broken, Saint Louis University Baseball did the same to VCU. The Billikens plated 16 runs over the course of two games in 7-1 and 9-0 wins on Saturday.

Saint Louis (18-8, 5-1 A-10) got off to a hot start in game one thanks to a little small ball. Aaron Case led-off with a single to left field before Alex King reached on an attempted sacrifice bunt to put runners at first and second with no outs. Parker Sniatynski followed with a sacrifice bunt of his own to put the first two runners in scoring position.

Jake Garella hit into a fielder's choice, but an errant throw from third plated both runners and gave the Billikens a 2-0 lead.

The Billikens continued their offensive output in the bottom of the third. A pair of singles to lead-off the inning from Garella and Sniatynski put runners at the corners with no outs. Carter Hanford drove the first run in on an RBI groundout before Cole Dubet got in on the action. The second baseman hit an RBI double to left center to give Saint Louis a 4-0 lead.

Jackson Wark was simply dominant through five innings on Saturday. The senior fanned six batters in the first five frames as he allowed just one hit.

Saint Louis posted three more in the bottom of the fifth, thanks in large part to a pair of fielding miscues by VCU and sealed the victory in game one.

Wark ran into trouble in the sixth after allowing three hits in a row, but managed to get out of the jam relatively unscathed. The right-handed pitcher loaded the bases, but got Mitchel Lacey to ground into a double play, which scored a run and put two outs on the board.

Brett Willett came to the plate with a runner at third, but Wark got the right fielder to fly out to right and ended the inning with just one Rams' run home.

The Billiken game one starter finished his seven inning outing in fine form only allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and earned his team-leading fifth win of the season in the process.

Offensively, Saint Louis was extremely productive in game one. Case, Sniatynski, Garella and Dubet all recorded two hits.

In game two, Kyle Fletcher picked-up right where the Billikens left off in the first contest. The designated hitter drove a 1-0 pitch up the middle, which scored Carter Hanford and Nick Reeser, to give Saint Louis a 2-0 lead.

Moments later, Case nearly hit a double to the wall in right-center, but Haiden Lamb made a diving catch to rob the Billiken center fielder and limit the damage to a sacrifice fly.

Two home runs, however, told the story in the second game of the day. Hanford unloaded his fourth of the season in the third, a three-run shot, which led-up to King's third of the year in the fourth.

Drew Reveno got the start for Saint Louis and tied Jackson Wark for the most wins in the starting rotation with five. Both Reveno and Wark are now 5-1 on the year.

With the wins, Saint Louis moved to 5-1 in conference play in 2018.

Saint Louis will now gear-up to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a two-game mid-week series at the Billiken Sports Center on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CDT.
