DOLPHINS HAND BILLIKENS SERIES DEFEAT

Box Score

SAINT LOUIS - [BOX SCORE] For the first time in 2018, Saint Louis University Baseball came-up on the wrong end of a home weekend series. The Billikens recorded four runs on 11 hits, but fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins 7-4.

Saint Louis (25-13, 11-1 A-10) fell behind in the second inning as Jacksonville hung a four-spot in the top half. The Dolphins took advantage of a hit batsman with one out before putting together a string of hits.

Jacob Southern recorded the first of four consecutive hits in the inning as Jacksonville built an early 4-0 lead after an inning and a half.

Saint Louis posted its first run in the bottom half. Carter Hanford led the inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a hit by Cole Dubet, as the home team put two runners aboard with just one out.

Ryan Hernandez followed with a single to load the bases with two outs before Aaron Case grabbed the first RBI. The center fielder drew a bases loaded walk and cut the Billiken deficit to 4-1.

Saint Louis plated its second run in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally. Hanford ripped a double to right-center field prior to a sharply hit grounder up the middle by Nick Reeser to make it a 4-2 game.

The Dolphins got that run back in the fourth. A walk and a pair of wild pitches put another potential run 90 feet away as Ruben Someillan stepped to the plate. The Dolphins' center fielder hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Cory Garrastazu from third, and gave the visitors a 5-2 lead.

Things remained quiet until the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and a 2-1 count, James Morisano unloaded his sixth home run of the season, this one to right field, and put the Billikens within two. Saint Louis tacked-on another in the ninth, but were unable to gain the advantage with the bases loaded in the final frame.

Hanford, Dubet and Case led the Billikens on the day with a pair of hits apiece as Jackson Wark picked-up the loss. The junior right-handed pitcher surrendered five runs on six hits as he suffered his first loss since February 23rd.

The Billikens will try to salvage the series on Sunday as they will take-on the Dolphins in the getaway game. First pitch will take place a bit earlier than normal at 11:00 a.m. at the Billiken Sports Center.
