BILLIKENS CAPTURE WIN IN SERIES FINALE

SEVEN-RUN SIXTH SENDS SAINT LOUIS HOME WITH SWEEP

Box Score

SAINT LOUIS - [BOX SCORE] Saint Louis University Baseball has seen its share of success in Atlantic 10 play in 2018, and Sunday was no exception. The Billikens dropped 11 runs on the La Salle Explorers as they secured the series sweep with an 11-1 victory.

Saint Louis (28-15, 14-1 A-10) finished the weekend series in Philadelphia in fine form with another offensive outburst. As a whole, the Billikens outscored the Explorers 31-2 over the weekend set.

The Billikens grabbed an early lead in the second as Alex King continued his assault on the baseball. The senior hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Saint Louis went back to work in the fifth and plated what became the game winning run. With one out, James Morisano walked and put a runner at first for Kyle Fletcher. The Sunday designated hitter recorded one of his two hits on the day to bat the Billiken catcher to third as the top of the order came to the plate.

Aaron Case notched the game-winning RBI on the first pitch he saw. The center fielder hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Morisano, and made it 2-0.

Drew Reveno put together a solid afternoon yet again. The junior from San Jose, Calif., allowed just one run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run, but exited the game with a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth. That lead grew exponentially in short order.

Saint Louis took advantage of a back-breaking error with two outs to put the game out of reach. A sacrifice fly scored one, but after a fly out, the Explorers were one out away from having a relatively painless sixth inning. Cole Dubet, however, reached on a fielding error by La Salle's Tommy Toal, which led to six unearned runs in the inning and put the Billikens up 9-1.

Saint Louis tacked-on two more as the bullpen preserved another win for Saint Louis. Luke Sommerfeld, Nick Logusch, Aaron Patton and Ryan Lefner completed the game with one scoreless inning apiece.

King's home run in the second inning gave him one homer in each game of the series. This is the second A-10 set of the season that he recorded a four-bagger in each game, the last being the April series against Dayton.

The Billikens will reach the final three weeks of the season looking to secure first place in the A-10 Championship Tournament set for the last week of May. Two home series remain as Saint Louis will welcome Davidson next Friday before they wrap-up the regular season with a road swing through St. Bonaventure before finishing things at the Billiken Sports Center against George Washington.

Saint Louis will get back to action in the first of two remaining non-conference games on Tuesday. First pitch against Southeast Missouri State is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
