Saint Louis struck out 10 St. Charles batters on its way to a 6-3 victory in eight innings Monday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo.
The Billikens hit the batter limit in a five-run second inning, scoring on two-RBI singles from Mark Vierling and Alex Peterson and adding a fifth run on a bases-loaded walk by Colten Schild.
SLU tacked on its sixth run on a Dominic Cusumano fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth, but St. Charles responded with three runs in the top of the next frame.
Seven Billikens each tossed a scoreless inning of ball: Trevor Harris, Cameron Pferrer, Grant Fremion, Scott Youngbrandt, Ryan Surin, Ryan Patel and Logan Schmitt.
Fremion struck out the side in his outing, while Harris, Youngbrandt and Surin each picked up two punch outs.
Schild reached base three times, with two walks, a single and an RBI, while Vierling and Peterson posted two RBIs each.
As a team, the Billikens reached 13Â times on either a walk or hit-by-pitch in the game.
