Columbia, Mo. - Saint Louis' indoor track and field squad opened the 2010 portion of its schedule Friday at the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Mo.

Among the highlights for the Billikens was freshman Kalie Kirk's school-record performance in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 8.87 in the event not only secured first place, but it surpassed her own school record of 8.91 she set in her Billiken debut a month ago at the ISU Open.

Additional top five performances on the women's side included Maddie O'Quinn's fifth-place finish in the 600-yard run, crossing the line in 1:28.91. Sara Fraley neared the school record in the 1,000 meters, finishing less than a second off the pace with a time of 3:00.04, which was good for fourth overall. Jenna Romano pulled in fifth overall in the 1,000 with a time of 3:04.96.

Hilary Orf placed fourth in the mile with a time of 5:17.28, while Brittney Cloudy posted third-place marks in the long jump (17-6.76) and triple jump (38-2). SLU's 4x400-meter relay squad of Kirk, Romano, Caitlin McCarthy and Fraley finished third overall with a time of 4:06.86.

On the men's side, David Whelan qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash and finished seventh overall with at time of 7.07, just three-tenths of a second off his own school record.

In the 3,000 meters, Brian Holdmeyer and Jack Hostettler finished sixth and seventh with times of 8:51.71 and 9:01.1, respectively. Mike Collins and Dahmar Smiles qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, with Collins finishing fifth overall with a time of 8.42.
