Billikens Complete Day One of A-10 Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. - Saint Louis achieved several school records Friday in the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Mackal Field House on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

While the majority of Friday's competition involved preliminary heats, several finals took place. SLU junior Justin Kwasa turned in a fourth-place finish in the weight throw, posting a mark of 57-.25. A pair of school records fell in the 5,000 meters, as Brian Holdmeyer placed seventh with a time of 14:58.96 for the men, while Hilary Orf finished eighth with a time of 17:42.41 on the women's side.

In preliminary action, Kalie Kirk established a school record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.27, which qualifies her for tomorrow's final. In the men's 55-meter hurdles, Mike Collins qualified for the finals after crossing in a school-record time of 7.88.

Caitlin McCarthy will run in Saturday's 800-meter run final after posting a qualifying time of 2:18.34 in Friday's prelims. Jenna Romano and Sara Fraley will both participate in Saturday's 1,000-meter run final after posting qualifying times of 2:59.45 and 2:59.93, respectively.
