Women's Results
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Saint Louis University men's and women's track and field set six school records and achieved numerous personal bests Saturday at the inaugural Gateway Classic at SIU Edwardsville's Korte Stadium.
Justin Kwasa continued to improve on his school-record marks after posting records in three events. He shattered his school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 178-11, which was good for fourth overall. In the discus, he placed fifth with a heave of 152-05, which exceeded his previous SLU standard by seven feet. Finally, he posted a school record in the shut put with a mark of 43-11.25 to finish seventh in the event.
Mark Zimmer turned in a school-record time in the 200 meters with a time of 21.93, while Dahmar Smiles was right on his heels with a time of 21.94. Mike Collins posted personal bests in the 110-meter hurdles (15.16) and 400-meter hurdles (54.66), while Jack Hostettler turned in a PR in the 1,500 meters (4:05.79).
Scott Vicker's 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 9:51.86 was second and his season-best time, while six Billikens competed in the 5K led by Brian Holdmeyer's second-place finish (15:25.54).
On the women's side, the Billikens finished one-two in the 100-meter hurdles. Kalie Kirk crossed the line first in a school-record time of 14.40. Tiffany Alexander finished second with a personal-best time of 14.68.
Brittney Cloudy finished third and tied her school record in the long jump with a mark of 18-2.25. In the triple jump, she finished first with a season-best leap of 39-10.50.
Alexander and Amanda Labuz' 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 11:47.67 was a seasonal best.
The Billikens will have a split squad next weekend with select student-athletes traveling to the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Others will return to Korte Stadium for the SIUE Twilight on Saturday, April 24.
