Jon Myers smashed a two-run single in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and boost Saint Louis to a 5-1 victory over Fordham in the final game of an Atlantic 10 Conference series. The triumph lifted the Billikens to a crucial series win after the teams split the first two tilts.
The Rams took the lead with one run in the third inning on a sac fly to right by Ryan Maghini. In the fifth Marco DiRoma reached on a fielder's choice, and Cody Cotter drew a walk. Jerry Mancuso's single to short center loaded the bases. Zach Miller worked a walk to drive in the tying run. Myers drove in two runs with a single to centerfield to put the Billikens on top 3-1.
SLU starter Damian Rivera gave up just three hits in five innings of work to pick up his second win of the season. He recorded three strikeouts and also picked off a runner. Travis Parker closed out the game for his eighth save of the season.
The Billikens added on to the lead when Cotter singled to bring home C.J. Rose.
The Billikens up their slate to 24-19 overall, 6-9 in the A-10. The Rams drop to 27-17, 8-7 in A-10 play. The teams close out the three-game series Sunday with a Noon outing.
