ST. LOUIS - The longest win streak in Billiken baseball history has come
to a close. The 13-game winning streak was snapped today in Charleston, Ill. in
a 13-6 loss at the hands of Eastern Illinois. Saint Louis falls to 19-6 on the
season.
The Bills are one of the top defensive teams in the A-10,
but the glove work was shaky today.
The Billikens committed four errors in the game, the most since Saint
Louis committed four against Bowling Green on Feb. 18.
The pitching staff also gave up four home runs in today's
contest. Prior to today's game, the Bills had given up 10 home runs all season.
Saint Louis got out to a strong start, scoring two runs in
the top of the first, but the Panthers responded with four runs of their own in
the bottom half of the frame. Senior Marco DiRoma ripped an RBI single in the
second to bring the Bills within one, however that was the closest SLU got to
victory.
Although the win streak has been halted, Saint Louis still
has another active streak. With his walk in the first inning, DiRoma extended
his on base streak to 15 games.
The only team to keep DiRoma off the base paths this season has been Arizona State.
The Billikens will return to action this weekend in Dayton,
Ohio when they will take on A-10 foe Dayton in a weekend series. The Flyers are
9-14 this season and 2-1 in conference play.
