Alemann Throws Gem in Loss to South Dakota State

Box Score

ST. LOUIS - Senior RHP Alex Alemann threw six innings of no-hit baseball, but the Billikens were shutout by South Dakota State, 3-0. Saint Louis falls to 11-8 on the year. The total duration of the game was 1:55 minutes, the fastest game the Bills have played this season.

The game was highlighted by two terrific pitching performances. Alemann (3-1) was perfect through five innings and did not allow a hit until the seventh inning. He finished with 8.0 IP, six hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Alemann's counterpart, Layne Somsen, was equally effective, scattering seven Billiken hits and shutting out the SLU attack.

The Billikens hit the ball all over the field, but they were right to the Jackrabbit defense. On the game, 12 of the Bills' 27 outs came on fly balls, only eight were groundouts. On the other side, Alemann did his job and kept the ball on the ground. He forced 11 groundouts and two double plays.

Senior Alex Kelly did not reach base in today's game, snapping his 17-game on-base streak.

The two squads will meet up again tomorrow as part of a double header at the Billiken Sports Center. Game one is slated to begin at noon.
